2019 - Completed
AVILAstudio was approached by the stair and glass manufacturers JT Glass, for this project in order to perform a detailed vibration analysis of the steel and glass stair. The project features an offset-helicoidal steel stair with tempered glass parapets, spanning between two existing floor levels. The pre-existing conditions posed limits to the overall weight of structure as well as a tight programme for the approval and installation before the planned opening of the shop in late October.
Due to the light weight of the structure a vibration analysis was required in order to prove that all required comfort criteria were met. The analysis was performed through a detailed time history analysis of ascending and descending walk-by pedestrian load and for a wide range of excitation frequencies. The recorded accelerations were carefully examined against the comfort criteria limitations, carefully laid out with the client and lead engineers on the overall refurbishment project. The stair performance was verified with only minor tweaks to plate thicknesses of the original layout, and the stair was erected and completed within budget and programme.
